About the Doctor
Dr. Nirmal Prakash Narain — affectionately known as "डॉ नारायण बाबू" and "गरीबों के डॉक्टर" — has dedicated over five decades of his life to serving the poorest, most vulnerable sections of Indian society. His journey began in 1974 and has never stopped.
He earned some of the world's most prestigious surgical fellowships — FRCS from England, Edinburgh and Glasgow — and used that knowledge not to amass wealth, but to give back to the people of Bihar and India. As a senior surgeon, he has operated on countless complex cases, free of charge, for patients who could not afford private hospitals.
As an eminent medical educator, he has trained generations of doctors, guided over 100 research projects for MS and PhD degrees, and served as an examiner for the National Board of Examinations for 30 years under the Ministry of Health, Government of India.

Voices of Gratitude
"I had a complex abdominal surgery and my family could not afford any hospital. Dr. Narain operated on me free of cost at PMCH. Today I am healthy and working. He is truly a god-sent doctor for the poor. We call him our Masiha."
"I am a surgeon today because of Dr. Narain's mentorship. He guided my MS thesis with incredible dedication and patience. He did not just teach surgical techniques — he taught us humanity, compassion, and how to serve with an open heart."
"During COVID-19, while everyone stayed home, Dr. Narain was on the wards treating patients. He coordinated vaccination camps, trained health workers, and never once asked for recognition. He is the epitome of a true public servant."
"Every Sunday, Dr. sahab comes to Panch Mandir without fail. He checks everyone — old, young, Hindu, Muslim, rich or poor — and gives medicines from his own pocket. We have never seen a doctor like him. He is our family doctor for free."
"I was detected with early-stage cancer in one of Dr. Narain's free screening camps. Because of that early detection, my treatment cost a fraction of what it would have been. He literally saved my life — and my family's savings."
"As Chairman of the Scientific Committee of ASI Bihar, Dr. Narain brought international standards to our state's surgical community. His FRCS from England, Edinburgh and Glasgow makes him one of India's most globally qualified surgeons — yet he chose to stay in Bihar and serve the poor."
